As I boarded the mini bus at the park, I settled in for the ride to the last bus stop. The journey was uneventful at first, but soon we hit traffic, and the bus became a revolving door of passengers. People got on and off at various stops, while I remained seated, bound for my destination.
The frustration of being stuck in traffic was palpable. I couldn't help but feel agitated as I watched others get off the bus, seemingly reaching their destinations with ease. Everyone else seemed to be getting off, while I was stuck, waiting for my turn. It was as if I was the only one with a destination in mind but then again, I thought to myself : they are stopping because they've gotten to their destinations. The traffic was exhausting, and I found myself growing increasingly frustrated.
But then, a thought struck. The journey of life is just like this bus ride. We may sometimes be facing the same direction, attending the same university, participating in the same program, working at the same firm. But here's the thing: we're all headed to different destinations. Our lives may be following the same route, but our ultimate destinations are unique.
When we compare ourselves to others who seem to be achieving success faster or more easily, we begin to lose focus. We forget that our journey is our own, with its own twists and turns. We start to feel like we're falling behind, like we're not good enough. But the truth is, everyone's journey is different. We may be on the same route, but we're not all going to the same place.
My agitation wasn't because I didn't know where I was going; it was because I was tired of the traffic and the stops along the way. Life is full of traffic jams and detours, but we can't let them define us. Instead, we need to hold on to the knowledge that we have a unique destination, one that only we can reach.
So, how do we deal with the temptation to compare ourselves to others on this journey? We hold on to the knowledge of where we're going, and we trust in God who knows the destination we're meant to reach. We can't control the traffic, but we can control our response to it. We can choose to trust that God has a plan for our lives, and that plan is good.
In that moment, I realized that life is a journey, not a destination. It's the twists and turns, the ups and downs, that shape us into who we're meant to be. We may not always understand the route we're taking, but we can trust that it's leading us to our desired destination. And when we focus on our own journey, rather than comparing ourselves to others, we'll find peace and purpose in the ride.
The bus ride may have been frustrating, but it taught me a valuable lesson. Life is not about comparing ourselves to others or trying to keep up with their pace. It's about trusting in our own journey and the destination that God has ordained for us. As I finally reached my bus stop, I felt a sense of relief and gratitude. I realized that the journey, though difficult, had been worth it. And I knew that no matter where life takes me, I'll always be on the right route, headed for my unique destination.
Till I write to you again: Hold on to the Lord who owns the route and the destination!
